No, that’s not a Jon Cypher film. That’s me. My apologies for not having done any updates for a while, but for the last little while my 91 year-old mother has been ill and I’ve had to focus all my attention on her. She’s doing much better now so I’m hoping to get back to work on getting more of Jon’s work from MAJOR DAD and HILL STREET BLUES. I still have some stills left to get into the gallery. These were rare stills from some of Jon’s film career and a couple from his television work. So please be patient while I get these things together.

I found this on Youtube and thought you’d love to see it. There is a video with a few of Jon’s MAJOR DAD bloopers. Jon played the part of Brigadier General Marcus C. Craig on the show for its final three seasons. I’ve been rewatching this show and found Jon’s humour so funny. How he delivered the lines so perfectly despite Matt Mulhern (Lt. Eugene Halowachuck) and Beverly Archer’s (Gunnery Sgt Alva Bricker) comedic timing…. I’d say these three were the stand outs for me during the show’s final seasons. I did watch it in the show’s first season but didn’t think it found its feet until the second and the additions of Archer and Jon. I have to say I adored Shanna Reed (Polly Cooper McGillis), Marisa Ryan (Elizabeth Cooper McGillis), Nicole Dubuc (Robin Cooper McGillis) and simply and totally loved Chelsea Hertford (Casey Cooper McGillis). I had begun watching the show due to having seen Gerald McRaney (Major John McGillis) on the show Simon and Simon. While I did like season one, having Jon added just made my watching of this show that much more perfect.
You’ve likely noticed a significant update to the gallery. It comes in the form of all twenty four episodes of MAJOR DAD where Jon played the part of Brigadier General Marcus C. Craig. I loved this character. Not only was Jon able to show his comedic side, but he was so perfect as Craig. I loved his interaction with the entire cast. While I’m not a fan of the military life it did a good job in showing what those in the military go through in terms of deployment and the effect that has on the families. Though I doubt they get into the many comical shenanigans as this cast did. What got me about Jon’s performance is that while he was funny, when the need presented itself you could see he brought his seriousness to the issue. The highlight of season two was Jon’s outstanding performance of The Impossible Dream, a piece he performed as the lead character Don Quixote in THE MAN OF LAMANCHA, a role he performed understudy for in 1965 while playing the part of Dr. Carrasco. I’ve heard this piece performed by the likes of Colm Wilkinson, Robert Goulet, and others, but I think my favourite has to be Jon’s, though I’d kill to hear him do it with a full symphony orchestra. I’m including a rip of that part of the episode The Possible Dream where Camp Hollister performed a talent show for the civilians on the base. An interesting bit of trivia, if you look in the crowd at the lady with the long white hair, that is Jon’s wife, Dr. Carol Rosin. Enjoy.

I’m hoping to get more of Jon’s work up on the site. My apologies for not having had more time to spend here as I simply adore Jon. I’m trying to get a hold of Jon’s three seasons as Major General Marcus Craig in MAJOR DAD, however, getting those seasons has been hard. I’m also trying to get Jon’s work in HILL STREET BLUES completed. Please be patient. I also have Jon’s role as General Martin Goldman in one of my favourite series TOUR OF DUTY I’m trying to convert to a usable file size so I can do good screencaps for the gallery. I know there are some of you who are asking whether I have Jon’s role as The Prince in the 1957 television live broadcast of CINDERELLA. I do have it. Unfortunately the quality isn’t all that great. I’m currently trying to find a good version of it with a large enough screencap so it would be useable for the site. I do have some stills and the music from the show I will try to get up soon. Please again be patient. I’m going through some personal things right now that is sort of making it difficult to get to the things I want to. Another blast from the past in terms of Jon’s episodic television roles. This time it’s from BONANZA where Jon played the part of a Confederate soldier name Col. Cody Ransom. The episode was about the Cartwrights coming to the aid of Jon’s character whose men had been fugitives after the Civil War has ended. The plot involved Washington’s desire to allow Ransom and his men to surrender themselves in order to go back to the lives they lived before the war erupted. A good performance by Jon and he looks so good in unifrom…but I think we all know that from both MAJOR DAD and of course MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE. This episode included a ten-year-old Jodie Foster as Jon’s daughter Bluebird. I couldn’t help but think of Jon’s real life daughter Rowan when I was watching this. Jon looked so natural with Foster and the hug was so sweet. This is one of Jon’s best performances from early in his career.
